The End of the Tunnels, 2

A Passage from Luminous Airplanes, or Things As They Were: A Hyperromance

Panic clutched my stomach and closed my throat and finally it was too much, I couldn’t keep going. I stopped in the middle of a tunnel which continued, it seemed, to infinity, and when Momus came back for me I refused to take even one more step.

“I can’t,” I said.

“Why not?”

“I just can’t.”

“Come on. Be brave.”
